"Heidi McCurdy’s most impressive achievement on Fickle Mind is making Lilith Fair seem like it wasn’t such a bad idea. After all, if Sarah McLachlan’s travelling vanity project was good for anything, it was exposing the masses to relatively unknown female artists. Fickle Mind makes a great case that McCurdy could use a break. The 10 original songs span 1996 to 2005, a good sign that the singer is nothing if not persistent. She’s also too talented to have been toiling in obscurity for this long. Things start out winningly with “Wonderland Jam”, which finds the singer channelling the ghosts of jazz giants past over a downtempo hip-hop beat. From there, vocally at least, McCurdy brings to mind Alanis Morissette in her more introspective moments. Musically, things move confidently from loose-limbed funk lite (“Fickle Mind”) to ethereal piano pop (“She Laughs Freely”) to swellegant cocktail-nation lounge (“Play My Game”). In the end, you’re left with one question: why in the hell doesn’t Nettwerk Records have this girl’s name on a recording contract? Yes, Fickle Mind is that great."

"A rare indie release where everything is so spot-on you are left wondering why this artist isn’t getting a big label push. Totally pro." |

Listener comments for "Last Night"
very nice.
A rarity in today's R&B: a cautionary tale of a destructive relationship, sang with intelligence, integrity and soul. Top notch on every level - musically, lyrically, and production-wise. This is the kind of R&B that deserves to be heard. Excellent.

Grooved UP!!!
Cant stop moving and swaying around with this tune. Loved every niggly bits of sound fx, the melody structure, arrangement, just top notch! The vocal acapellas, and above all, the feel of the song is just awesome. Single note guitar groove is awesome as well, and all the good grades to your bassist for holding the groove so well. Am hooked! Add me to your fanlist. Regards and keep the good work up

Listener comments for "Play My Game"
As cool as it gets!!
The intro grabs the listener right from the start. Love the way the vocals creep in, in a provocative way.
The hook is outstanding. the lyrics are well writen. This song is ready for the big time. The world needs to hear this one.
sounds someting like Sade, but you write better lyrics then the Sade writer.
The Vocals are tops, and what can I say, the lyrics are tops also.
The beat is good, I can feel it. The melody and the lyrics are right on, the breaks in every way are well done.
The hook and the lyrics are the big news here. Every one sould listen to this one

tasteful, very likable
man.. I got chills.
I know it sounds cliche, but.. the vocals, the mood of the song, the guitar.. the drums.. what a damned good song.
she sings like.. an artist by the name of Poe. that's a GOOD thing. the melody lines chosen, the subtle raspy-ish singing in the softer sung words.
the chord progression gives this song an awesome feel too.
that all backed by great sounding drums makes this song stand above the rest. take a listen, you just might end up buying a new CD.
